Tips for Overcoming Dental Anxiety

Feeling nervous about visiting the dentist? You’re not alone! Dental anxiety is common, and at Kotch Dental, we understand that every patient has different concerns. Whether you’re feeling a little uneasy about an upcoming appointment or have avoided dental care because of fear, our team is here to help you feel comfortable, informed, and in control.

There are several simple ways to make your dental experience more relaxing:

  • Talk to Us About Your Concerns: Let us know if there’s something about your appointment that makes you nervous. We’re happy to explain each step of your treatment, answer questions, and help you feel more confident about what to expect.

  • Practice Relaxation Techniques: Slow, controlled breathing can help ease tension and keep you calm during your appointment. Focusing on your breathing or finding a simple distraction can make a big difference.

  • Listen to Your Favorite Music or Watch a Show: Sometimes a little distraction can make all the difference! Bring your headphones to listen to your favorite music or podcast, or sit back and enjoy a show on the TVs in each of our treatment rooms, complete with streaming services to help you relax during your visit.

  • Takes Breaks When Needed: You’re always welcome to let us know if you need a moment. Simply raise your left hand during treatment to signal that you’d like to take a short break.
  • Ask About Sedation Options: For patients experiencing more significant anxiety, sedation options may be available depending on the procedure and individual needs. Our team can discuss whether an option like nitrous oxide or oral sedation may be appropriate for you.

We're Here to Make You Comfortable

Your comfort matters to us. We encourage you to share any concerns before your appointment so we can work together to make your visit as positive and stress-free as possible.
